Strange Suspense Stories
(first series)

This title is a researcher/indexer's nightmare. It started out as Fawcett's Strange Suspense Stories for #s1-9, then turned into Lawbreakers Suspense Stories #s 10-15, was bought by Charlton and turned back to SSS #s 16-22. With #23 the title turned into This is Suspense for 4 issues. With #27 it is again SSS, until #77, for #78 is the first as Captain Atom. Are you still reading this? To top the bill, there was a SECOND series of SSS as well! Although I leave out all of the Fawcett issues, This is Suspense #s 23-26 are simply slipped in with the rest of them!

Run: #16 (January 1954)-22 (November 1954); #23 (February 1955)-#26 (August 1955); #27 (October 1955)-#77 (October 1965).

(second series)

Although there was a strong parent to lean on, this title just didn't seem able to draw enough readers and folded far too soon.

Run: #1 (October 1967)-9 (September 1969)

Creator credits: Jim Aparo art #1; Steve Ditko art #2 cover #2.
